Arista Management System

The Arista System is divided into three levels: 

1. The first one consists of the end metering devices – smart electricity, water, gas, and heat meters, as well as devices for street lighting. All of them have the possibility to collect and read information, as well as to execute commands, updates, configurations setting sent by the Management center.

2.  The collected data is sent via PLC, RF or Ethernet to a router – data concentrator (DC), which is part of the second communication level of the system. The router/DC has the task to collect and send the information from the meter devices to the Management Centre. Also it send commands from the Management Centre to the end devices. The communication between the router/DC and the Centre is done through VPN tunnel via GSM/GPRS. 

3. The last level of the system is the Management center. Therefore, you have a two-way communication – from the end devices, through the router/DC to the Centre and back. 

The metering devices are controlled through configuration and commands for remote connecting and disconnecting. For example: for the electricity meters this is done with the help of a relay for connecting or disconnecting the consumer from the network, whereas for the water meters this is done by a valve. The metering devices send information to the Management Centre about consumption, alarms, events, etc. The whole communication process is based on standard methods and protocols (PLC => OFDM Prime, RF, MBUS, DLMS). 

The communication between wate, gas and heat meters with the DCs and the Centre is done via RF and the operation system is focused on minimizing the energy consumption. This is necessary because these metering devices work with batteries and it is crucial to guarantee long and reliable battery life. Technology-wise the communication network between the water meters is built independently, where every device sends info to its neighbouring meters. Unlike the water meters, the network of the electricity meters is the power line itself, but again every device sends info to the meters around it.

Arista Management system provides a platform from which the utility can take advantage of numerous and various benefits. Some of the benefits are direct, like cost reduction of operations such as meter reading, remote connection/disconnection; increased profit from decreasing the non-technical losses, or the mere fact that the PL communication does not require additional investments. Other benefits are indirect, like process optimization, effective load profiles planning, avoiding of subjective errors. For the first time in history utilities can put their customers in the center of their activities and offer them new valuable services.
