May was exciting. ADD Bulgaria’s team visited the leading annual transmission and distribution event, held this year in Dallas, Texas, USA between 23rd and 25th of May. This was the first event after the pandemic restrictions and the expectations of all visitors and exhibitors were pretty high.
The exhibition happens every year in the USA and its purpose is to address technologies used to move electricity from the power plant through the transmission and distribution systems to the meter and inside the home. The changes in the energy sector are already happening due to the fast advancement of innovations. ADD Bulgaria explored the many products and services related to electricity delivery automation and control systems, energy efficiency, demand response, renewable energy integration, advanced metering, T&D system operation and reliability, communications technologies, cyber security, water utility technology, and more.
We received the invitation to visit this great event by the US embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria, which organized a Bulgarian delegation. So, together with various experts and executives in the Bulgarian energy sector, we became part of an exciting and promising tour, the purpose of which was to explore the newest achievements in technologies and to establish valuable connections. The invitation from the US embassy was a clear indicator of the strategic role our company plays in the Bulgarian energy sector.
We were happy to create new contacts with leading companies from all over the world like Omicron, Enel, Itron, Edge Zero, Bidgely, Sensus, Oracle, Kyndryl, Camlin Energy, Eaton and many others. With some of them we held deep discussions with the aim to exchange experience and to start new partnerships. Very promising were the 24 startup companies presenting and competing at the Initiate! Section.

DER (distributed energy resources) adoption, flexible generation, microgrids and energy storage were some of the main topics at the event. Especially so was the topic of EVs, EV charging stations and electrification as a whole, as utilities are planning and stategizing how to deliver electricity not just to homes and businesses but to vehicles as well. Because the impacts of a mismanaged EV charging could be disastrous. Also interesting were the solutions for grid enhancing and modernizing. All in all, the tendency is that the various technology implementations turn the so-far conservative companies from the energy sector into data-driven digitally empowered ones.
We took up this long-distance trip because it aligns with our strategic plans to strengthen our positions as an important trend-setting company for the local energy market. Since 2006, in addition to our everyday activities in delivering, integrating and maintaining a healthy AMI system, we have always participated in such initiatives either as visitors or exhibitors to keep track of the technology innovations. Our mission has been to help our customers grow and stand out with the help of technology.
